BSc (Hons) Computing with Foundation Year

The BSc (Hons) Computing with Foundation Year course is designed to develop strong skills in the use of computing and IT to solve real-life problems.

The course is based on three core themes: Technology, Software, and Data. These themes are taught through different modules throughout each year, allowing students to gain a broad knowledge of database systems, internet technologies, cyber security, networking, and business information systems.

The BSc (Hons) Computing with Foundation Year course is designed to equip students with the knowledge of modern technology and develop skills in the IT and computing sectors. In the Foundation Year, students will acquire the academic and employable skills required for higher education, as well as become familiar with the core concepts of computing. In the next stage, students will learn to analyze data related to computing and IT and learn techniques to solve various problems related to technology, software and data. At Level 5, students will gain a deeper understanding of the fundamental principles of computer science and will be able to apply them to solve various real-life technical problems.

In addition, they will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired through industry-related projects. At Level 6, students will study technology, software and data-related research in more depth and learn the practical application of computer science principles in various business and industrial sectors. In the final stage of the course, students will have to complete a practical project, which will give them an opportunity to demonstrate their analytical skills, problem-solving abilities and technical skills. Through this course, students will be able to acquire skills in important areas such as cybersecurity, networking, software development, data analytics, and business information systems, which will ensure their competitive position in the future technology-based job market.

The assessment of this course is done in a variety of ways to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and competence of students. The assessment methods include:

Students are required to complete research, homework and group work in their own time. Self-study is very important for the success of this course and lecturers will provide students with proper guidelines.

The assessment methods are reviewed annually and updated as necessary. In addition, an external examiner ensures the quality control of the course assessment.

Students must be 18+ and:

  • A Level 3 qualification (equivalent to 60 credits or 80 UCAS points).
  • English Qualification: GCSE Grade 4/C or CEFR B1. If you do not have these qualifications, you can take an English test.

 

For those aged 21+:

  • We welcome applications from students aged 21+ who do not meet the standard entry requirements, but can demonstrate a desire and interest in studying in the subject and can demonstrate academic, professional or technical experience.
  • English Qualification: GCSE Grade 4/C or CEFR B1. If you do not have these qualifications, you can take an English test.
