This new Level 6 Leadership and Management Apprenticeship (Health and Care) course is specifically designed for workers in the health and care sector. It is suitable for both those taking on management responsibilities for the first time and experienced managers.

This course is a professional quality training for the health and care management sector, which will help students acquire modern management skills. It will mainly teach leadership, team management, project management, and advanced strategic planning. In addition, it will help build ethical decision-making, relationship management and a positive organizational culture in healthcare organizations.

Through this course, students will have the opportunity to participate in the NHS Leadership Academy’s Mary Seacole Program, which will enhance their ability to provide effective leadership in the health and care sector.

This course is particularly suitable for those wishing to build a career in the health and social care sector. Students will be able to improve their management skills through practical training and will be prepared to face the various challenges of the healthcare sector.

After completing the course, students will receive:

  • Level 6 Chartered Manager Apprenticeship Qualification
  • BSc (Hons) Health and Care Management
  • NHS Leadership – Mary Seacole Award

The duration of the course will depend on the applicant’s previous experience and qualifications.

First Year:

  • Principles of Professional Practice (40 credits)
  • Planetary Health (20 credits)
  • Creating a Collaborative Culture (20 credits)
  • Inclusive Practice (20 credits)
  • Compliance Management (20 credits)


Second Year:

  • Advanced Professional Practice or Mary Seacole Program (40 credits)
  • Empathetic Leadership (20 credits)
  • Digital Health Leadership (20 credits)


Third Year:

  • Project Management (20 credits)
  • Coaching and Leadership (20 credits)
  • Total Quality Management (20 credits)
  • Health and Analytics Planning (20 credits)
  • EPA Management Projects (60 credits)

This course uses a work-based assessment instead of a traditional exam. Students will be assessed in the following ways:

  • Work-based written assignments
  • Decision-making simulations
  • Case study analysis
  • Project management

Applicants to this course must meet the following requirements:

  • Be employed in England and spend at least 50% of their working hours in England.
  • Be able to perform duties in accordance with the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship Standard.
  • Have proof of residency as a UK/EU/EAA resident for at least 3 years.
  • Be able to secure funding through an employer.
  • Have three GCSEs (grades A*-C/9-4), including two GCE A-levels or equivalent.
  • If your previous education was not in English, you must have an IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80 score.
  • If you have a previous degree of equivalent or higher level, your application will not be accepted.


Entry requirements for the second year:

  • Level 4 Certificate (120 credits) in a health/social care related field or
  • Level 5 Diploma (240 credits) in a health/social care related field or
  • Bachelor’s degree in a health/social care related field or
  • Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma/Master’s degree in a relevant field.


Entry to the second year with management experience:

  • 3 years’ work experience in the health/social care sector at NHS Band 6 or equivalent.
